Research is the foremost step of writing, be it a thesis report, an assignment or a simple essay. Gathering and collecting the information is a necessary step is to construct a commendable piece of writing. Elaborative research helps the writer have insight into the topic they are writing about.
However, one thing that must be considered when researching information is to choose credible resources to avoid any inconvenience.
Brainstorm the ideas
What students don’t have to forget is that, once they have started researching about the topic what they are required to do is brainstorm the ideas with the information they have found. The right way of doing so is to list the points that are already known to the writer. For example;
- List down the details in separate headings.
- Use the Venn diagram to structure one’s ideas
These methods would be it convenient for the writer to draft the essay after collecting the information.
Learn the art of formatting
Writers must get familiar with the structure that has to be followed and list down the method that would be used to compose the essay. For example;
- Introductory Paragraph: including the thesis statement and introduction of what the writer is about to discuss.
- Supporting Paragraph 1: This is the start of the main body of the essay where the writer discusses one idea among others that supports their thesis.
- Supporting Paragraph 2: Another idea is explained in the second paragraph.
- Conclusion: In the conclusion, the writer has the liberty to again mention the thesis statement to refresh the memory of the reader along with any future thoughts on the topic. (Robert, 2021)
It is very common for the students to think that writing fancy and complex vocabulary would enhance their paper however they do not know that it does the opposite. Using words that most of the audience might not be familiar with can make the reader overwhelmed. Thus, not want to finish the essay and if they are the instructors, they can provide negative marking.
Form a word bank
Word bank is nothing but a list of vocabulary that can be used. The writer must be aware of the synonyms and antonyms along with the words that can be used interchangeably for increasing the reader’s interest in the essay and creating more excitement using the right set of words. However, the words should be related to the topic and must not be too complex for the reader’s understanding.
Punctuation and Grammar
Proper punctuation makes the words in a sentence clear to comprehend for the reader therefore, writers must be aware of all the grammar rules and should follow them while writing a paper. With correct punctuation and grammar, it becomes easier for the writers to impart their perceptions to the readers.
Know your audiences
Another vital area of writing is learning about the preferences and choices of the readers, i.e., the ones whom the paper is being written in the first place.
The writer must know what the reader wants to know and should include those particular details in the paper. (McGill, n.d.)
Take professional help
There should be no shame in asking for help especially when it comes to writing in English which can be cumbersome for some people who do not belong to the major English-speaking countries. Even for the native speakers it gets tough sometimes and they do minor mistakes, therefore, it is necessary to take the service and ask the professionals to proofread the draft and point out any mistakes or corrections.
This is the last and the most crucial part of writing an essay. Whenever a writer is done with drafting, they should review the essay from top to bottom to figure out any accidental errors made.
